La lettre n°13

What's new on the Observatoire critique's website ?

As every month, we are suggesting a new artwork and a new artist's screen to you.

Version française

And if the Dump was an art work ? It is the suggestion that we are throwing in the dumpster put up by Maurice Benayoun. It is one of the entries to which is inviting this mixed deposit, this generous accumulation, hidden behind the smoothed types of an ordinary blog. You can take whatever you may find there : index and words clouds make it possible to move through a jumble of declarations. A collaborative work. But in an interstitial kind of way : ante- and post- work since we are accumulating ideas, programmes, projects, drafts and plans. The declarations are often self-sufficients in this version of a conceptual art which nevertheless allows some freedom in the constraint, by leaving some blunt ideas about the contemporary art world lying around in this waste collection center... But the most important lies in the filing away of a process of relief of the mind : from the black box, the remains are extracted to be virtually transformed into active principles. The very vacant ground of art offers itself to recycling because there is no original work. We can ourselves take the part of the curator.

The Dump
Maurice Benayoun, Octobre 2006

Screensaver created as part of the series of Artists' Projects for the Web of the Dia Art Foundation

Li Bai (701-762), a Cinese poet, tried to catch the moon.
He jumped into the lake in an effort to pick up the moon he saw on the water.
And there, he drowned in the moon's reflection.
